Marka Security Operation Nets 27 Suspected Al-Shabaab Members

Somali police declared that a security operation conducted in the southern seaside town of Markonetted 12 suspected Al-Shabaab members following last night’s hand granede attack on SNA soldiers.

Abdi Farah Mohamed, police in Marka town said a security operation launched at dawn has netted 12 suspects are being question over an overnight hand grenade explosion targeted SNA soldiers troops.

Gun battles and grenade attacks killed two people on Friday night in Marka town, where the government is struggling to contain a violent insurgency.

“Unidentified men hurled hand grenade at the soldiers and escaped in the melee of gunfire from other troops nearby,” said a resident who witnessed the incident. He said two civilians were wounded.

Marko has been under Al-shabaab control for nearly 7 years before SNA and AMISOM troops pushed the group out of the town 2012 after an offensive since then town has seen little peace.

Roadside bombs, attacks on government installations, assassination attempts and gunbattles have become common.
