Meeting in Mogadishu Explores Impact of Climate Change on National Security

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Security experts and government officials are meeting this morning to explore threat of climate change on the country’s security.

Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama opened the meeting bringing together government officials, members of the international community and representatives from the civil society among others.

The meeting under the auspices of the National Security Office comes amid concerns that climate change is posing a direct threat to the country’s security. This includes human displacements as a result of adverse weather conditions, worsening food security and conflicts over grazing lands and water resources.

The conference focuses on preparing the security sector for future climate change challenges.

Somalia is among the countries most affected by the effects of climate change despite contributing the least to global warning.
