Meeting on establishing council authorities in Hirshabelle state kicks off in Jowhar
Consultation meeting on establishing council authorities in Hirshabelle state has kicked off today in Jowhar, the state capital organized by the state interior ministry in partnership with its federal counterpart.
The convention is particularly focusing on how to expedite the implementation of the council authority in the state and is attended by officials from both local state localities and Hirshabelle administration.
Addressing the meeting, the permanent secretary in the state interior ministry Mohamed Arush Dirow described its purpose as an arena for producing a policy paper for instituting local councils across the state.
“With the grace of Allah, after listening one by one to the laws relating to council authority, then we shall raise questions after deliberating extensively and the final document will be handed over to the government. It is something that belongs to all of us, our future and the next generation” Dirow said.
The meeting was ultimately winded up by the state speaker Osman Bare Mohamed who reiterated the importance for the locals living in the state to debate on the policy paper on council authority.
“Sincerely it’s a great pleasure for us as Hirshabelle state to converge here today to reflect on the policy paper on council authority by the state interior ministry to enhance the council issue. It’s a big development for Hirshabelle which our local constitution demands services to be extended to the grassroots by council officials appointed by the locals after consultation with them” said speaker Mohamed.
This initiative comes amid preparation for Somalia to conduct one person one vote person exercise in the year 2020.
