Middle Shabelle administration takes over Radio Jowhar

Police in Jowhar today took over Radio Jowhar building in Jowhar town, the headquarters of Middle Shabelle region according to Radio Jowhar director.

Director of Radio Jowhar Mohamed Abukar Asayr said the police arrived at the building ordering them to hand over the keys to the police and to leave the premises, with a warrant from the governor’s office before the expiry of a previous 24-hour deadline issued from the same office.

The director stated that the move shows lack of respect towards press freedom and freedom of expression in the region.

Abdi Jinow Alasow, Governor of Middle Shabelle on Thursday ordered the management of Radio Jowhar to vacate the centre within 24 hours.
