Two Al-Shabaab Militants Executed in Mogadishu for Civilian Murders

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s military court on Wednesday executed two men convicted of carrying out multiple killings in Mogadishu on behalf of the Al-Shabaab militant group, in a move that underscored the government’s commitment to justice and security.
The court identified the men as Saleebaan Hussein Nur Ali and Abdikadir Abuukar Ahmed, both of whom were sentenced to death after being found guilty of murdering civilians in the capital. Officials said the pair confessed during their trials and were executed by firing squad.
Military prosecutors said the executions reflected the state’s determination to confront terrorism and deter future attacks by Al-Shabaab, which has waged a bloody insurgency in Somalia for more than 15 years.
“The court will continue to pursue justice for the victims of terrorism and ensure protection for the Somali people,” a spokesperson for the military judiciary said.
The executions come as Somali forces, backed by international partners, step up operations against Al-Shabaab in central and southern regions, part of a wider campaign to weaken the group’s grip on rural areas and secure major population centres.
