Mogadishu local government says it is reconstructing several roads in the city
Mogadishu local government said that some of the city’s road had been upgraded by the administration.
Deputy Chairperson of the region’s works department, Abdiaziz Elmi Ali who spoke to Goobjoog News said that the local government reconstructed several roads in the capital city and several other roads are undergoing upgrading.
“We are doing means and ways to construct roads and rebuild roads in the city. We gave contracts to Somali companies so that they upgrade and construct roads in the city” said Ali.
This week Mogadishu Mayor Yusuf Hussein Jimcale has handed over $500,000 to a construction company which will be constructing one of the highways in Mogadishu.
“This money is not a fund we received from any other country or a donor organization, but is a tax collected from the 17 districts in Banadir region, and this clearly indicates that if we really mean to do something we can do, so let us jointly concentrated on rebuilding our nation” said Mayor Jimcale.
Late last week, Delegates from Turkey have met with officials from Mogadishu local government on the reconstruction of the major roads in Somalia capital city, Mogadishu.
Turkey’s engagement includes re-carpeting of roads in Mogadishu and street lighting.
Turkey also provided Somalia with over $400 million in the biggest aid campaign to the country in its struggle to fight starvation.
The roads in Mogadishu are still mostly unpaved, with only certain streets — the ones where most of the businesses and government offices are located having tarmac on them.
