GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir Region, Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), has urged Somali citizens to actively take part in the ongoing voter registration exercise, calling it a vital step in shaping the country’s future.

Speaking in Kaaraan district, where he personally registered for the upcoming one-person, one-vote election, Muungaab emphasized that the voter ID card is a constitutional right for every citizen and a powerful tool for change.

“I encourage every Somali to register and get their voting card,” said Muungaab. “This is how we decide who leads us. It’s a right and a responsibility.”

The mayor described his own registration as a significant personal moment, highlighting the historic nature of Somalia’s shift from indirect elections to universal suffrage.

MP Osman Xadoole, who also registered in Kaaraan, echoed the mayor’s message. “Today I got my voter card. The era of indirect elections is behind us. This is a new chapter.”

The national voter registration campaign is part of Somalia’s broader electoral reform process, aimed at strengthening democratic participation and accountability.
