Mogadishu Mayor Delivers Medical Aid to Community Forces Battling Al-Shabaab in Hiiraan Region

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Banadir Region Governor and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein has delivered a shipment of medical supplies to community defense forces operating alongside the Somali National Army (SNA) in the Hiiraan region, where government-led offensives against the al-Shabaab insurgency continue to intensify.

The handover ceremony, held in Mogadishu, underscored the capital’s growing role in supporting frontline operations aimed at reclaiming territory and restoring order in central Somalia.

Mayor Hussein pledged sustained logistical and moral support to both national and grassroots forces involved in the ongoing campaign against the Islamist militant group.

“We stand firmly with our brave forces,” said Mayor Hussein. “This support will continue, and we are ready to contribute to any needs they may have in this noble fight.”

The delivery comes amid a surge in military activity in Hiiraan, where local defense militias, known as Macawiisley, have emerged as key allies in efforts to repel Al-Shabaab fighters from rural communities.

The mayor’s gesture is seen as a symbolic and practical affirmation of unity between the capital’s administration and frontline regions often hardest hit by insecurity.

The event was attended by members of Somalia’s Federal Parliament, senior officials from the Banadir Regional Administration, and representatives of the Banadir Women’s Association, highlighting broad-based civic support for the anti-insurgency efforts.

The presence of civic leaders at the ceremony also reflected a wider national sentiment that defeating Al-Shabab requires not only military action but also coordinated backing from political, regional, and civil society actors.
