Mogadishu Mayor Mungab Touts Self-Reliance, Unity at Road Inauguration
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Mogadishu Mayor and Banadir Region Governor Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungab) used the inauguration of a new road in the Shibis district to underline his administration’s message of self-reliance, accountability and national unity.
Speaking at the opening of the Nasiib Buundo Road, Mayor Mungab said the project demonstrated the city government’s growing ability to finance and deliver critical infrastructure using local resources, noting that the road was fully funded by the Mogadishu municipality.
He described this as a clear sign that public revenues are being translated into tangible services for residents.
The mayor stressed that quality and sustainability were central to his administration’s approach, saying contractors are held to strict standards and long-term responsibility for their work. He added that the inclusion of solar-powered street lighting reflected a focus on safety and modern urban planning.
Addressing residents directly, Mungab called on communities to take shared responsibility for protecting public assets, urging cleanliness and cooperation with municipal maintenance teams. He said public participation was essential to preserving development gains and building trust between citizens and local authorities.
The mayor also outlined an ambitious vision for Mogadishu, announcing plans to accelerate road paving across the capital from 2026 as part of a broader urban transformation agenda. He framed the infrastructure drive as part of Somalia’s wider recovery, concluding with a call for unity and a firm message that the country’s territorial integrity remains non-negotiable.
