Mogadishu Mayor Opens New Roads at Key Market to Ease Trade
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Banadir Regional Administration governor and mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Hussein, has inaugurated 10 newly built interlocking roads in Suuq Bacaad, the Somali capital’s second-largest market.
The road project is part of broader efforts by the Banadir administration to improve urban mobility, public services, and economic activity across Mogadishu. Suuq Bacaad, a major commercial hub serving thousands of traders and residents each day, has long faced congestion and poor access due to inadequate infrastructure.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mayor Hussein said upgrading infrastructure in key markets was central to the city’s development agenda, noting that the new roads would improve transport, sanitation, and safety within the market area.
Officials said the interlocking roads are expected to ease the movement of goods and people, reduce dust and flooding during the rainy season, and support more orderly market development.
Traders and residents welcomed the project, saying it would improve working conditions and help boost business in one of Mogadishu’s busiest marketplaces.
The Banadir Regional Administration has been expanding road construction and rehabilitation projects across the capital as part of its urban development programme.
