Mogadishu Mayor Pledges Medical Support after Deadly Apartment Fire
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Mogadishu Mayor and Benadir regional governor Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungaab) has said that the city administration will provide full medical and social support to victims of a deadly apartment fire, including arranging treatment abroad for the most critically injured.
The mayor made the pledge during a visit to Erdoğan Hospital, formerly Digfeer, where members of a family injured in the blaze are receiving treatment. The fire, which broke out on March 3 in the Howlwadaag district, killed a young girl and injured 11 others.
Hospital officials said several of the injured remain in critical condition and require specialised care and close monitoring.
Mungaab met hospital administrators and doctors to receive updates on the patients’ conditions and discuss rehabilitation needs. He expressed condolences to the family and said the regional administration would remain engaged until the victims recover.
“The Benadir administration is committed to ensuring the injured receive the care they need, including advanced treatment abroad where necessary,” he said.
The visit, attended by regional officials including the deputy minister of communications and technology, underscored growing pressure on local authorities to improve emergency response and building safety in the capital following repeated fire incidents in residential areas.
