GOOBJOOG NEW | MOGADISHU: The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungaab, has called on parents across the capital to enroll their children in public schools as part of broader efforts to expand access to education and combat illiteracy.

The mayor made the appeal during a working visit to the Directorate of Education of the Banadir Regional Administration, which recently underwent a major renovation. During the visit, he received briefings from education officials on ongoing programs aimed at improving education services in the region.

Muungaab praised the Directorate of Education for its work in serving the community and emphasized that the regional administration is prioritizing education development so that families who pay taxes can benefit from free public schooling for their children.

The mayor also revealed that he recently approved nearly $300,000 annually to support school development in Banadir, adding that the funding will increase alongside plans to construct larger schools in the near future.

He further noted that the process of obtaining middle school certificates has been simplified following earlier challenges, and urged education officials to ensure that upcoming academic examinations are conducted transparently and fairly.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Banadir administration to expand access to education, strengthen public schooling, and improve learning opportunities for children across Mogadishu.
