GOOBJOOG | MOGADISHU: Mogadishu has been ranked East Africa’s most efficient port in the 2024 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), surpassing long-established regional hubs such as Mombasa, Djibouti and Dar es Salaam.

The index, released on Sept. 24 by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, assessed 407 ports worldwide, including 47 in Africa. Mogadishu placed 163rd globally – ahead of Mombasa at 375th, Djibouti at 364th and Dar es Salaam at 360th – positioning it among the continent’s top five alongside Port Said in Egypt, Tanger-Mediterranean in Morocco, Dakar in Senegal and Toamasina in Madagascar.

Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur, Director General of the Mogadishu Port Authority, said the ranking showed that competitiveness is possible without major infrastructure investment. He added that the recognition reinforces Somalia’s role in regional and global trade.
