Mogadishu Port Shifts to 24/7 Operations as Security Improves
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia has announced that Mogadishu’s main port has begun operating around the clock, a move that will ease congestion, reduce delays, and enhance the facility’s role in regional trade.
The Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport said the shift to 24/7 operations, effective 14 November, has been enabled by improved security conditions in the capital.
“We expect reduced congestion and fewer delays in vessel services, while also boosting the port’s competitiveness,” Ports Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur said in a statement. He said the expanded schedule is likely to raise state revenue and offer more reliable services for Somali traders.
The decision is part of wider efforts to upgrade Mogadishu Port and other maritime gateways under the government’s economic agenda led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
Nur thanked Port Director Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur Americo, Albayrak Port Mogadishu, security agencies, and other government departments for their role in enabling the transition to continuous operations.
