GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Schools in Mogadishu have been ordered to fly the Somali national flag as part of new measures aimed at instilling patriotism and ethics among students, the Banadir Education Authority said on Monday.

The directive was issued by Banadir Governor and Mogadishu Mayor Hassan Mohamed Hussein, known as Muungaab, who warned that schools failing to comply would be held accountable.

The authority said it would carry out inspections to ensure schools raise the flag in proper form and also evaluate the quality of education being offered.

“Every school in Banadir must display the Somali flag in its correct colours and implement programmes that promote nationalism and moral conduct,” the statement read.

Earlier this year, Mogadishu authorities ordered businesses to display the flag during Freedom Week, which runs from late June into early July, as part of wider efforts to reinforce national unity.
