GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Mogadishu and the Turkish city of Konya will establish a sister-city partnership aimed at strengthening municipal cooperation and supporting the Somali capital’s urban recovery.

The announcement was made as Banadir Governor and Mogadishu Mayor Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungab) joined Turkish Ambassador Alper Aktaş to lead a sanitation campaign along the Lido Beach coastline, underscoring a joint focus on environmental management and city renewal.

Mayor Mungab said the initiative reflected broader efforts to restore Mogadishu’s image and improve public services, stressing that cleanliness and civic responsibility were essential to the capital’s recovery.

Ambassador Aktaş said the planned twinning with Konya, a major economic and industrial centre in Turkey, would deepen institutional ties and support capacity-building within Mogadishu’s municipal administration.

Officials said the partnership is expected to enable the exchange of expertise in urban planning, municipal governance and service delivery, helping accelerate modernization efforts and improve living conditions in the Somali capital.
