Mogadishu’s only free ambulance service on verge of closure over financial constraints

Amin Ambulance Emergency, the only free ambulance service provider in the Mogadishu has warned it could soon cease operations due to financial constraints, staffing shortages and constant threats.

Dr.Abdirahman Haji Adan the head of Amin ambulance told Goobjoog News that Aamin Ambulance has been operating for almost 10 years and has treated over 30,000 emergency cases and delivered to health facilities.”

Amin ambulance has 56 workers and 16 vehicles working for 24/7 services to a growing city of population about of 2 million people.

“The donation we are running on is contributed by individuals mainly students in the universities, and that is not enough to cover the needs of a big city,” said Dr Abdirahman.

The 24/7 of Amin ambulance started working in 2006 with a single ambulance, a few drivers and nurses in the capital Mogadishu, risking their lives while trying to save victims of explosions.

Aamin Ambulance maintains the only Mogadishu call centre with a 24-hour emergency helpline.

The provider hit global headlines last October during the Zoope truck bombing which claimed over 500 lives.  Operating round the clock, Aamin team ferried dozens of injured and the dead to various city hospitals.
