MONTHLY REPORT: Jubbaland President Madobe sworn in as former Gedo governor rebels
Goobjoog News Monthly report takes a look at the stories that hit the headlines on a monthly basis in each of the regional states of Somalia. Jubbaland got its first elected State President in September among a number of other developments.
September 1, 2015: Jubbland forces allegedly killed four people in raid. The raid took place in Gedweyne village of Dowlo locality in Gado region in the south of Somalia. Jubbland regional forces accused the dead men of having links with Alshabab.
September 7, 2015: Former Gedo Governor Mohamed Abdi Kalil and his fighters pitch tent in Garbarey town raising tension. Kalil reacted after Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe sacked him and named new mayor to the city which created tension in the region of Gedo where his clan is populous.
September 10, 2015: Ten additional seats added to Jubbland state assembly to pacify some of the tribes in the region. Regional assembly approved the proposal by State president Ahmed Madobe.
September 12, 2015: Jubbaland land president Ahmad Madobe’s inauguration takes place attended by all leaders of the federal and state governments. Hussein Gulled, Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Tedros Adhanom, Majority Leader in Kenyan national assembly Adan Du’alle, United Nations envoy to Somalia Ambassador Nicholas Kay, IGAD representative Mohamed Abdi Afey and Turkish envoy also attended the inauguration.
September 15, 2015: A blast rocks Bardere town of Gedio region targeting a contingent of Somali National Army officers. Security officials later arrested up to 50 people after an swoop in the area.
September 17, 2015: At least three Jubbaland military officials are killed and three others injured in a landmine explosion inside a military camp in Kismayu. Ten security officers carry out operations and kill two businessmen. Out of the ten soldiers seven are charged and sentenced to death by firing squad for the death of the traders. Three others are slapped a three year jail term.
September 19, 2015: Jubbaland president arrives in Mogadishu to participate in the National Consultative Forum in Mogadishu..
September 21, 2015: Jubbaland deports 60 women who were allegedly said to be wives of Al-Shabab. These women were arrested from different parts of Kismayo, the capital administrative of Jubbaland according to officials.
September 21, 2015: Senior Ethiopian Military officials from the country’s Defence ministry arrive in Kismayu, ahead of an anticipated Ethiopian forces deployment in the area.
September 26, 2015: At least 3 people, including a soldier are confirmed dead and 10 others wounded in a bomb explosion at a busy restaurant in the port city of Kismayo.
September 28, 2015: Eal-Ade locality commissioner is wounded by a landmine that inside his home.
