More Than 20 Buried in Mass Funeral After Deadly Clan Revenge Killings in Somalia’s Sool Region

GOOBJOOG NEWS|SOOL: More than 20 people were laid to rest in a mass burial on Saturday in Aricadeeye village in Somalia’s Sool region, following a deadly clan-related revenge attack that claimed numerous lives a day earlier.
Footage seen by Goobjoog Media showed large crowds participating in the mass funeral for the victims, who reportedly included children, elders, religious scholars, and young people.
Local sources said the victims were killed at a single location during the violence. Some reports further alleged that several bodies were run over by military vehicles after the killings.
Sources on the ground also told Goobjoog Media that medical teams are still treating nearly 13 people injured in the clashes, some of whom sustained critical wounds.
The conflict, which resulted in the heavy loss of life, is reported to have been triggered by the killing of a khat trader operating in the area. The incident quickly escalated into an armed confrontation between militias affiliated with two clans living in and around Aricadeeye.
Meanwhile, Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation issued a peace appeal condemning the violence and calling on all parties involved to immediately and unconditionally cease hostilities.
The ministry also urged traditional elders, religious leaders, community elders, and officials at various levels of government to actively support efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and finding a lasting solution to prevent the conflict from spreading further.
The violence has become one of the deadliest clan clashes witnessed in the region in recent years, leaving local communities grappling with grief, insecurity, and displacement caused by the fighting.
