MPs Endorse 18 Electoral and Boundaries Commission Members Amid Concerns of Rushed Process

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Lower House has approved the names of 18 members appointed by the Cabinet to serve as commissioners in the newly formed Independent National Elections and Boundaries Commission.

The MPs meeting at their temporary venue in Villa Hargeisa voted in favour of the 18 commissioners by 160 votes. The Lower House comprises 275 MPs.

Concerns have however been raised on the speed at which the House passed the vote just a few hours after the Cabinet approved the names. The INEBC Act allows parliament to vote for all the candidates at once by show of hands, skipping the crucial process of vetting individual candidates.
