Municipal Forces Shut Down Galkayo District Headquarters Over Unpaid Dues

Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GALKAYO: Local government security forces in Galkayo have shut down the district headquarters, barring municipal staff from entering the premises in protest over months of unpaid salaries.

The closure has disrupted public services, with administrative workers and sanitation staff forced to remain outside the offices on Monday.

The protest highlights a growing frustration among Puntland’s security personnel and civil servants, many of whom say they have not received their wages regularly. The action comes a day after Puntland’s Minister of Finance insisted that all government employees, including security forces, are being paid on time.

Speaking to local media, some of the protesting officers said the salary delays had severely affected their livelihoods and those of their families, making it impossible to continue discharging their duties without pay.

The standoff has raised tensions in the town, with residents expressing concern that the disruption could further affect essential municipal services.

Authorities in Puntland are now under pressure to address the grievances of Galkayo’s local government forces and staff to prevent the dispute from escalating and undermining public service delivery.
