National Communications Authority of Somalia and IFC Host Workshop on Critical Regulations

Nairobi, Kenya – The National Communications Authority (NCA) of Somalia, in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), successfully hosted a workshop focused on introducing new regulations for submarine cable landings and fostering sector competition.

The workshop, which spans two days, brings together key stakeholders from Somalia’s telecommunications sector, including telecom operators, industry experts, and government officials, to discuss regulatory frameworks that will shape the future of Somalia’s digital infrastructure.

The workshop, part of NCA’s strategic plan to enhance the nation’s connectivity, addressed critical issues such as licensing for submarine cable landings, environmental impact considerations, infrastructure sharing, and promoting competition in the telecommunications sector. These regulations aim to align Somalia’s telecommunications framework with international standards, supporting national economic development goals.

His Excellency Ambassador Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, who opened the workshop, highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting how Somalia’s private sector has played a pivotal role in the nation’s recovery and growth.

Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, Director General of the National Communications Authority, emphasized the importance of collaboration between regulators and industry stakeholders during his remarks.
