National Consultative Council Meeting Enters its Second Day in Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Consultative Council meeting, which brought together officials from both the federal and member states entered its second day, with participants exchanging views on various agendas including; Security, Elections, Constitution among other key issues.
Sources privy to proceedings of the meeting chaired by federal government of Somalia president Hassan Shekh Mohamud said that the participants on Wednesday deliberated on elections in the regional governments.
The sources added that discussions surrounded the mode of conducting the elections, which were proposed to adopt the one person one vote system in line with an earlier agreement reached during a similar National Consultative Assembly meeting in May 2023.
Another key agenda to be discussed during the meeting is the ongoing offensive against the Al-Shabaab militants, which is being spearheaded by the federal government of Somalia, which has seen several regions of the country already liberated from Al-Shabaab control.
Also, the completion of the country’s constitution will be discussed, with members from all sides seeking to find a consensus so as to create a document that addresses the needs of all citizens of Somalia.
