Nearly 10 Injured in Mogadishu Clashes Over Demolition of Homes
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Close to 10 people have been injured in clashes between government security forces and residents protesting the demolition of homes in the Tookiyo neighbourhood of Mogadishu’s Yaaqshiid district, according to local reports.
The confrontation erupted after security forces moved into the area to carry out a demolition operation on land that the government claims belongs to the state.
Residents reportedly staged a protest against the operation after being informed that they would be evicted from the disputed land, leading to clashes with security personnel.
Images circulated from the area showed several injured young people receiving treatment at hospitals in Mogadishu. The circumstances in which they sustained their injuries and their conditions have not been independently confirmed.
The latest confrontation comes amid continuing disputes in Mogadishu over land ownership, evictions and the demolition of residential properties, issues that have generated tensions between authorities and affected communities in recent months.
