New AFRICOM Chief Pledges Stronger Security Ties With Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) new head General Dagvin R.M. Anderson, has pledged continued U.S. support for Somalia, underscoring the country’s strategic role in the Horn of Africa.
Speaking in Mogadishu during his first official visit, Anderson said that Somalia was a “crossroads of the world,” highlighting its importance to regional stability.
The visit comes as Washington seeks to reinforce cooperation with Somali authorities against militant threats and to build the capacity of local security forces.
He further said U.S. assistance would remain focused on strengthening Somali forces and supporting government efforts to stabilize the country.
Anderson, who previously led U.S. Special Operations in Africa, said his background would guide him in assessing security needs and aligning American support with Somali priorities.
His trip signals Washington’s commitment to maintaining close security ties with Somalia and wider engagement in the Horn of Africa.
