New Galmudug Forces to Reinforce Fight Against Al-Shabaab in Central Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUUSAMAREEB: Galmudug State has deployed newly trained security forces to strengthen operations against Al-Shabaab, in a move regional leaders say will help secure liberated areas and expand military gains in central Somalia.

President Ahmed Abdi Kaariye “Qoorqoor” presided over the graduation ceremony in Dhuusamareeb on Tuesday, where the troops demonstrated counter-insurgency tactics after months of intensive training.

He said the units would reinforce Galmudug’s Daraawiish forces, who are fighting alongside federal and allied troops to push al-Shabaab from its remaining strongholds. “Their role is to protect civilians, secure recovered towns and ensure stability takes root,” Qoorqoor said.

The deployment comes as Somali authorities accelerate a multi-front offensive to weaken the Islamist group, which continues to mount attacks despite recent territorial losses. Officials say stabilising newly captured areas is critical to sustaining pressure on the militants and restoring state authority.
