New Puntland MPs to be Sworn in Ahead of Presidential Poll

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GAROWE: Newly elected Members of Parliament for the Sixth Parliament in Puntland are being sworn in today following the release of the final list on Sunday.

The new 66 MPs who are drawn from the five regions that make up Puntland are expected to take the oath of Office following an announcement Sunday evening by the clerk.

The majority of the MPs-21 come from Bari region which is the largest region in Puntland. It consists of six districts and its capital is the coastal city of Bosaso. This is followed by Sool region which incorporates the the heavily contested districts of Cayn (Ayn) with 14 legislators. The region with the third highest number of MPs is Sanaag with 10 MPs.

Others are Nugaal whose capital is Garowe with eight MPs and Mudug with nine MPs.

The swearing in of the lawmakers will now pave the way for the election of a new President next week.
