Nicholas Kay due to jet off to Garowe
The Special representative of United Nations special secretary for Somalia Nicholas Kay is expected to jet off to Garowe, the administrative capital of semi autonomous regional state of Puntland today.
The aim behind the ambassador’s visit to Garowe is to broker and rekindle the ties between the federal government of Somalia and Puntland regional state whose relations has been weak since last year.
Puntland has cut the ties with federal government after representatives from Central regions of Somalia presided by the federal government and UN signed a document to form new administration for Galmudug and Mudug which Puntland boycotted and described it as unconstitutional.
Puntland president Abdiwel Gaas called Puntland representatives in Mogadishu to immediately come back to Garowe for consultations.
August last year the former president of Puntland Abdirahman Mohamed Faroole cut ties with the government, he accused the government of undermining the federal constitution and refusing to share power and foreign aid with regions.
