NIEBC Partners with Elders in Baidoa to Promote Electoral Participation

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) held a consultative forum with traditional leaders in Baidoa, the capital of Southwest State, in a bid to enhance community participation in upcoming voter registration efforts.
The meeting is part of NIEBC’s broader public outreach strategy aimed at fostering inclusive, citizen-centered electoral processes across Somalia.
Officials from the commission briefed elders on the registration roadmap and urged them to play an active role in mobilizing local communities.
“We believe transparent and credible elections depend on engaging all segments of society,” a commission representative said, noting the importance of collaboration with trusted community figures.
Traditional elders welcomed the engagement and pledged support for civic education efforts within their constituencies, highlighting their longstanding role as connectors between communities and state institutions.
The initiative underscores Somalia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic participation through local partnerships and consensus-driven approaches, as the country moves toward broader electoral reforms.
