NIEBC Sets Date for One-Person, One-Vote Polls in Banaadir Region

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has set next month’s local council elections for the Banaadir region, marking another step in the country’s push toward universal suffrage.

Commission Chairperson Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan told reporters in Mogadishu that residents will cast their ballots on the 25th of the coming month to choose local council representatives through a one-person, one-vote system.

“On the 25th of next month, the Banaadir region will go to the polls for a one-person, one-vote election,” Abdikarim said at a press briefing at the Commission’s headquarters.

Political parties vying for seats have stepped up campaigning across Mogadishu and the wider Banaadir region as they rally support ahead of polling day.
