NIEC Chairlady appears before L. House parliament to address 2021 election mandate

 

The National Independent Election Commission (NIEC) Chairlady, Halimo Yarey expected to appear before the Lower House parliament to announce the timeline of the 2021 general election in Somalia.

The opposition political parties accused the National Independent Election Commission and the ruling party led by President Farmajo for the plan to extend the election period.

The upper House parliament speaker, Abdi Hanshi on Thursday rejected election Bill approved by the Lower House claiming of lack of adequate and appropriate management of the act concerning the election process ahead.

The regional state governments of Puntland and Jubbaland have supported the upper chamber’s efforts to find a solution to the federal and state government election process, as well as the disagreements within the Lower House of parliament.
