NISA Arrests 11 Al-Shabaab Suspects in Mogadishu Crackdown

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has said it had arrested 11 suspected Al-Shabaab members in an operation that disrupted what officials described as an active militant cell planning attacks in the capital and nearby regions.

The agency revealed that the group had been operating covertly in Mogadishu, as well as in parts of Lower Shabelle and Middle Shabelle, and was in the “final stages” of preparing coordinated assaults and collecting intelligence for future attacks.

Security officials said the arrests followed weeks of surveillance and data-driven tracking.

Agents moved in through a series of targeted operations, detaining the suspects individually, with some apprehended while allegedly carrying out tasks linked to extremist activity.

The government has intensified counter-terrorism efforts in recent months, using improved intelligence tools to disrupt plots before they materialise. Authorities say the latest arrests underscore progress in identifying and dismantling militant networks embedded in urban and rural areas.

NISA said all 11 detainees are being interrogated and will be transferred to judicial authorities for prosecution on terrorism-related charges.
