NISA Behind Attack of Police Officers in Mandera, Kenya Police Say

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MANDERA: Officers from the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) were behind the killing of Kenyan policeman in Mandera County, authorities in Kenya have said.
Mandera Criminal Investigation Command, Pius Gitari told reporters that the NISA personnel, acting at the behest of a criminal gang crossed into the Kenyan side in Mandera and attacked the Kenyan police officers killing one and wounding others.
“Somali security forces attacked our police officers at the border, killed one of them and took away two guns,” Gitari told reporters.
Gitari said the Somali security forces aimed to kidnap their Kenyan counterparts to pressure authorities in Mandera to release suspects from custody who had been arrested over their plot to kill some Chinese contractors.
“We were aware of their constant visits and the pressure they were putting on the release of these men. Therefore, we decided to transfer the suspects to Nairobi. The NISA group wanted to kidnap our soldiers to force negotiations for the release of these suspects,” Gitari said.
He noted that the brother of one of the suspects had sought the help of NISA to secure their release. He added that one rifle had been returned from Belet-Hawo on the Somali side.
There was no immediate comment from NISA on the development.
