NISA Captures Two Al-Shabaab Operatives in Afgooye Raid

GOOBJOOG NEWS|LOWER SHABELLE: Two Al-Shabaab members were arrested last night in a targeted operation carried out by the Gaashaan Special Forces under the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA). The suspects had slipped into Afgooye in secret, but were tracked and detained by security forces.

One of the detainees is said to be a senior operative involved in collecting extortion money from civilians and local businesses. The second individual is linked to the militant group’s intelligence wing, responsible for spying on government forces and coordinating assassinations.

The arrests follow a public warning issued by NISA on July 20, which stressed that paying or collecting money on behalf of Al-Shabaab constitutes financing terrorism — a punishable offense under Somali and international law. Authorities are again urging the public, especially business owners, to refuse any financial demands from the group.

NISA is calling on citizens to report any threats, extortion attempts, or suspicious activity to the relevant security agencies without delay. The Federal Government says it remains fully committed to defeating Al-Shabaab and protecting the Somali people from ongoing threats.
