NISA Opens New Security Base in Central Somalia
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Director General Mahad Mohamed Salad has launched the construction of a new intelligence base in the central town of Balanballe, as authorities seek to strengthen security operations in Galgaduud region.
The facility will serve as a base for NISA personnel responsible for intelligence gathering and security operations in Balanballe and surrounding areas, according to the agency.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place during Salad’s working tour of Galmudug State, where he has been assessing the security situation and consulting with regional officials, security commanders and community leaders on efforts to improve stability.
NISA said the visit is aimed at reinforcing cooperation between security agencies and local communities, amid ongoing operations against the Islamist militant group al Shabaab in central Somalia.
The establishment of the new base is expected to bolster the agency’s operational presence in Galgaduud, a region that has witnessed sustained military offensives by Somali government forces and allied local militias against al Shabaab over the past three years.
The move reflects Somalia’s broader strategy of expanding permanent security infrastructure in newly secured areas as the government seeks to consolidate territorial gains and prevent the militant group from re-establishing its presence.
