NISA Detains Two Suspects in Galgaduud Security Operation

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has transferred two men from the central Galgaduud region to Mogadishu after arresting them during a security operation targeting illegal weapons and violence linked to local clan conflicts.

In a statement, NISA identified the suspects as Abdi Mohamed Ahmed and Daahir Tahliil Igal, saying they were apprehended in the Kaxandhaale and Balihowd areas while allegedly carrying two AK-47 rifles.

The agency said the two were flown to Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu and are expected to appear before the courts to face legal proceedings.

According to NISA, the operation was carried out on the instructions of the agency’s director, Mahad Mohamed Salad, and follows agreements reached during a recent peace conference in Balanballe, where local authorities, traditional elders and community representatives pledged to take stronger action against the illegal possession of firearms and those accused of fuelling insecurity.

The initiative also stems from discussions held during the intelligence chief’s recent visits to parts of Galgaduud, including Guriceel and Balanballe, where officials and community leaders agreed to strengthen enforcement measures aimed at improving security and reducing armed violence.

NISA said the arrests form part of broader efforts to curb the spread of illegal weapons, stabilise communities and prevent recurring clan conflicts in central Somalia.

The operation comes as Somali authorities seek to complement military campaigns against the Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab with local peace initiatives aimed at reducing intercommunal violence, which has continued to challenge stability in parts of central Somalia despite ongoing mediation efforts by federal and regional authorities.
