NISA Kill Seven Al-Shabaab Militants in Hiraan Operation

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has said it killed seven Al-Shabaab militants in a joint operation with international partners in the Hiraan region on Monday night.

The security operation targeted militant hideouts in Kuukaayle, an area under Maxaas district, NISA said in a statement. Several vehicles and makeshift shelters used by the group were destroyed during the raid.

According to the agency, the operation was carried out in three phases. In the first, security forces struck a tent where three militants were hiding. Minutes later, a second strike killed four more fighters. The final phase destroyed vehicles that the group had prepared for future attacks.

NISA said the mission followed verified intelligence reports on militant activity in the area. It added that the operation disrupted Al-Shabaab’s plans to carry out attacks against civilians and security forces.

“The operation concluded successfully, and NISA remains steadfast in pursuing and dismantling any networks plotting harm against the nation,” the statement said.

Al-Shabaab, an al Qaeda-linked militant group, has been waging an insurgency against Somalia’s central government since 2006.
