NISA Kills 13 Al-Shabaab Militants in Middle Shabelle Raids

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has killed 13 Al-Shabaab militants, including key field commanders, in a series of coordinated counter-terrorism operations across the Middle Shabelle region.

The operations targeted multiple locations, including Qoordheere, Hawaala-Kulan, Reydableey, and the mountainous outskirts of El-Baraf town, where militants were reportedly regrouping and plotting attacks.

In Qoordheere, located in the Raaga-Elle district, four militants were killed and a weapons cache hidden under trees was destroyed. NISA said the group had been organizing in the area for several days.

Another operation between Hawaala-Kulan and Reydableey disrupted an active plot by Al-Shabaab to destabilize local security. Five militants, including senior figures, were neutralized in the engagement.

In a separate assault west of El-Baraf town, four more militants were killed in a strike aimed at preventing planned terror operations, according to security sources.

“These targeted operations form part of our ongoing mission to degrade Al-Shabaab networks and secure liberated areas,” a NISA spokesperson said.

Al-Shabaab, which is linked to al-Qaeda, continues to pose a significant threat in parts of Somalia despite military pressure from Somali forces and international partners.
