NISA Says 11 Al Shabaab Fighters Killed In Major Operations

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has said its forces killed at least 11 Al-Shabaab militants, including a senior commander, in three operations aimed at disrupting the group’s networks in central regions.

The agency said seven fighters were killed on August 12 in Tardo, Hiiraan, when security forces struck a house used for meetings by senior militants. The site was destroyed.

On August 13, another four militants, among them veteran commander Abdullahi Ganey, were killed in Daarul-nimca, Middle Shabelle. Authorities said the raid foiled an imminent attack.

A third operation on August 14 in Nooleeye, Galgaduud, destroyed a truck carrying weapons and supplies that NISA said were bound for Ceeldheer district.

“These strikes underline our commitment to dismantling al Shabaab and protecting the Somali people,” NISA said in a statement.

NISA described the operations as part of a broader push, with international partners, to weaken the group’s ability to threaten security across Somalia.
