NISA Says 22 Militants Killed as Security Operations Intensify in Central Regions
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has said coordinated security operations in central Somalia have killed more than 22 militants, dealing a significant blow to extremist networks operating in the region.
According to the agency, the operations targeted militant fighters and leaders linked to the group the government refers to as the Kharijites, with strikes conducted in the Hiran and Mudug regions.
The agency said the outcome of the operations disrupted militant command structures and destroyed key operational assets, including vehicles used by the group. Officials believe the loss of fighters and leadership figures will weaken the group’s ability to coordinate attacks in central Somalia.
Security officials noted that the strikes also help reduce threats to civilian populations and stabilize areas recently cleared by government forces, particularly along strategic corridors in the central regions.
The operations are part of a broader national campaign aimed at dismantling militant networks and restoring state authority in areas previously affected by insurgent activity.
Military officials say sustained pressure on militant strongholds is intended to create safer conditions for governance, humanitarian access, and economic recovery, reinforcing the government’s long-term stabilization strategy.
