NISA Disrupts Planned Attacks, Kills 23 Militants
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has said it had killed more than 23 Al-Shabaab fighters and dismantled militant bases in coordinated operations across central regions, disrupting what it described as planned attacks.
The agency said the intelligence-led raids targeted armed groups mobilising in parts of Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle, areas considered strategic corridors linking Mogadishu to other regions.
Operations in areas under Maxaas district neutralised fighters led by a local commander and foiled imminent attacks, officials said. In Moqokori, security forces destroyed a militant camp, including positions used by members of al Shabaab’s so-called religious police units.
NISA said the strikes weakened operational cells and curtailed the movement of fighters between rural hideouts and populated centres.
The missions were conducted in coordination with international partners and formed part of a broader effort to dismantle networks linked to al Shabaab and Islamic State affiliates in Somalia, the agency said.
The agency further stated that the sustained intelligence-driven operations are aimed at stabilising recovered areas and preventing militants from regrouping, urging citizens to cooperate by sharing information to help avert future attacks.
