NISA Says Five Al-Shabaab Fighters Killed in Hiiraan Operation

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has said that five Al-Shabaab militants were killed during a planned security operation in the Hiiraan region conducted in coordination with international partners.

According to NISA, the operation targeted militant hideouts in the Tardo area after intelligence reports indicated that about 25 Al-Shabaab fighters and senior operatives had gathered there to coordinate activities aimed at destabilizing security and disrupting civilian life in the region.

The agency said security forces destroyed bases, logistical facilities and equipment used by the militants for transportation and operational planning, inflicting what it described as significant losses on the group.

NISA said the raid forms part of ongoing operations aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab networks and weakening the group’s operational capabilities across Somalia.

Hiiraan region has been a major frontline in Somalia’s military campaign against al Shabaab, with government forces and allied clan militias conducting sustained offensives against the militia group over the past two years.

The federal government of Somalia has intensified intelligence-led operations in central and southern regions as part of a broader strategy combining military offensives, local community mobilization and efforts to disrupt the group’s financial and logistical networks.
