Senior Al Shabaab Leader Killed In Lower Shabelle Operation
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has said it killed a senior Al-Shabaab leader accused of orchestrating several deadly attacks, following a planned operation in Lower Shabelle region.
The agency said the raid was carried out on March 1 in the Hantiwadaag area near Awdheegle district, in coordination with international partners.
According to the agency, the militant commander, known by multiple aliases including Kamaludin Yunis Mohamed and Arale, was the alleged mastermind behind the October 4, 2025 attack at Godka Jilacow, as well as assaults on Jaalle Siyaad Military Academy in July and the General Dhega-Badan Training School in December last year.
NISA said the suspect had been under surveillance for more than 150 days and frequently moved between populated areas in Lower Shabelle, including Mubaarak, Kurtunwaarey and Gendershe, to evade capture.
The agency described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle al Shabaab’s command structure and prevent further attacks targeting civilians and security personnel.
Authorities urged the public to report information related to the Islamist group, saying operations would continue until what they called full security and stability are restored nationwide.
