Somalia’s North Eastern Administration Holds First Speaker Election in Lasanod

GOOBJOOG NEWS | LASANOD: Lawmakers in Somalia’s newly formed North Eastern Administration are gathering in Lasanod, Saturday to elect a Speaker of Parliament, a key step in establishing the region’s political leadership.
Several candidates have been campaigning for weeks to secure the support of Members of Parliament, with lobbying intensifying in the hours leading up to the vote.
The Interim Parliamentary Chairperson and the Electoral Committee oversaw final preparations to ensure a smooth and orderly process.
Officials from Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation were present to observe the proceedings. The ministry has been working with technical committees and local stakeholders to support the credibility of the process and guide the formation of the new administration.
Once chosen, the Speaker will appoint an electoral committee responsible for organizing the next stage, the election of the administration’s President and Vice President.
The vote marks an important milestone in building governance structures for the North Eastern Administration, with officials and community leaders stressing the need for stability, inclusivity, and adherence to democratic norms.
