A military Officer gunned down in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu
Gunmen suspected to be Somalia’s Al-Shabaab members shot dead Somali military officer as he was heading to home in Mogadishu on Friday evening, witness said.
Farah Adow said two young men armed shot dead the officer and fled the scene immediately.
“The soldier was killed after two armed men approached him and opened fire on him near Ma’maanka areas of Dharkeynley district, the assailants managed to escape the scene before the police reached the areas,” said Adow.
No group has claimed responsibility for the killing of the officer.
Somalia faces a major security challenge from Al-Shabab fighters that controls some towns in south and central of the country.
Al-Shabaab often targets troops and police officers from a 22,000-strong African Union force known as AMISOM that supports Somalia’s army.
