OIC Condemns Remarks by US Envoy to Israel as Threat to Regional Stability

GOOBJOOG NEWS | JEDDAH: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned remarks attributed to the U.S. ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, describing them as “dangerous and irresponsible” and a call for the expansion of Israeli control over Palestinian and Arab lands.

In a statement issued by its General Secretariat, the OIC said the comments were based on what it called a false historical and ideological narrative and warned they undermine the sovereignty of states, diplomatic norms and international law, including relevant United Nations resolutions and the UN Charter.

The organization cautioned that such rhetoric could inflame tensions and embolden policies it described as illegal, including settlement expansion, displacement and attempts at annexation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The OIC said these developments pose a serious threat to regional security and stability, particularly at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East.

Reaffirming its longstanding position, the bloc reiterated support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

It called on the international community to uphold international law and implement relevant UN resolutions to advance what it described as a just and lasting peace in the region.
