The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has announced that it will support the Djiboutian government in its campaign to secure a permanent seat of the UN Security Council in Kenya.
A statement from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has pledged to Djibouti to support the UN Security Council’s permanent seat, as the government of Djibouti is part of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation but not Kenya.
Kenya won last week’s vote by the African Union Commission for East African Seat of the 15-member Security Council.
Through a tweet, Djibouti Permanent Representative to the UN and Ambassador to the US Mohamed Siad Doualeh said his country is still in the UNSC race.
Djibouti said it would not give up its campaign and seek support from the Arab and Islamic countries.
The member state of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation which consists of 57 countries throws its weight behind Djibouti candidacy for the UN Security Council seat while Most of AU and Europe will probably support Kenya; Asia and Latin America are toss ups. US, China, Japan could support Djibouti given the military bases.
