Somali Government Launches Sustainable Development Goals Consultations in Mogadishu
The ministry of planning and international co-operation with regional states, civil society, academia and development partners kicked off today an introductory consultation meeting about how to align and synthesize Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) into Somali National Plan goals.
United Nation’s member states adopted last September seventeen new goals developed to succeed the previously known millennium development goals.
speaking at the gathering held in Mogadishu, Abdirhman Aynte- Federal government planning and International co-operation minster said Somalia needs desperately all the seventeen goals respectively. “We have no doubt that this country needs to include all these goals to the national plan but in reality we cannot at least at the moment therefore we should be selective by picking up the most pressing items including peace justices and strong institutions , affordable clean energy as well as education”
Daria Fane- delegation head of the European Union to the Federal Republic of Somalia praised the launch of the program and said Somalia is now heading towards development path “this is milestone step towards Somali’s road to recovery and development we see this as encouraging step taking forward” said Daria Fade.
Dini Mohmmad Dini- the head of Somali civil Society advocacy team asked the government to consult and listen, the public before deciding which goals to be included in the national plan “Somali civil society bodies need to be consulted, we want to see government institution that give respect and voice to public when it comes making decision which matters for all”
Somali Planning and international cooperation ministry is developing 2017-2019 country’s national plan which will succeed the current new deal compact which expires in the of 2016.
