One people die and more other hospitalized after diarrhea outbreak in Qansahdhere

At least three people died and more others mostly children have been hospitalized following diarrhea outbreak in the past one week in Qansahdhere district, official says.

Qansahdhere district commissioner Adan Abdi has said the outbreak of the disease affected many resident in the area.

“A few adult cases have been reported but mostly children are affected,” he said.

Contaminated water, unhygienic practices at the household level, poor sanitation, infant feeding-bottle contamination with human waste and ongoing person-to-person transmission have all contributed to spreading the disease, he said.

“The numbers have been going down due to the various interventions that have been put in place by the government,” he added.

He also urged people to report to the nearest health centers immediately with symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting.
