GOOBJOOG NEWS\MOGADISHU: One person was killed Tuesday night after an explosive device hidden in garbage went off, authorities have confirmed.

The Director General of the Sanitation Department in Banaadir Region Mohamed Suudi said the victim was injured after the explosive device blew up in garbage dumped on the roadside on Sodonka Road in Mogadishu.

“The garbage placed on the roadside has caused problems to the Somali people because explosive devices are hidden in garbage bags,” Suudi said.

He warned the public against dumping waste on the roadside, noting that action would be taken against those flouting the rules.

It was not immediately clear if there was any particular target. Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) have commonly been placed in car in Mogadishu but hardly on garbage.
